More about this scene
The Co-operative Society erected their imposing building from the river edge fronting onto the High Street up towards the National Westminster Bank; the upper floor has classical windows with carving above. The Co-op was active in 1907, and ceased trading in the 1990s. In 1903 the street frontage was occupied by small buildings, one of which was a registry office for servants run by Mrs Sophia Singer and Thomas Trotman, a studio photographer.
