Chepstow, Town Gate And The George Hotel 1957

More about this scene
The Town Gate, rebuilt many times over the life of the town, has had many uses; at one time tolls were collected here for all manner of goods and livestock. The wonderfully curved building on the left accommodates Brenda's, a ladies' wear shop. Two police constables direct traffic through the narrow gate which, it has been said, 'survived not only the storms of centuries, but the profanity of the drivers of heavy motor vehicles'.
