Seen from Lower High Street, this was the main A30 through the town and a busy stop for buses and coaches. Halfway down the left of the street, the whitewashed George Hotel, now renamed, developed as a coaching inn. The spire behind is that of Chard's large Congregational church.

My mum and her family were evacuated to Chard in WW2. My uncle and aunt are always talking about their time there and I would love to hear from anyone also with memories.
