This photograph looks eastwards along East Street from the southern pavement, with the Midland Bank opposite (left). Next-door, the International Tea Company`s Stores Limited has re-branded itself as the International Stores, and would remain a major grocery chain until the coming of purpose-built supermarkets. On the other side of the road, dispensing pharmacist N R Hilton is now trading as Hilton and Moss Chemists (right). The closest parked cars on each side are Humbers, with a Riley 9 further along the north side of the street (centre).

Visitation Preparatory School Bridport
1962 to 1966, the car journey from Surrey was full of tears, taken by my mother and grandfather, on arrival the tiled entry and the Nuns in full habits greeted us, I was soon ushered in to the hall with promise of a goodbye before they left, which became a wave through a window. Boarder From 1954 Till 1958
I was sent to the convent after my Father died in 1953. My Uncle had been educated there many years previously. I can confirm the recollections that have been put here of the vicious way in which some of the Nuns treated us. Sister Ann
I was a pupil at this convent between 1961 and 67 and i remmeber getting beaten by sister ann on several occassions i think this must off been because my parents wher off cypriot origin and i had a greek surname if anyone whent to this convent during those years it would be nice to hear from you

I Was Schooled Here From 1961 Until 1968
I was a boarder at the convent. I started in the Autumn term before my 5th birthday and remember being put to bed in a large dormitory on the top floor, full of other children with a cubicle for a nun to sleep in. Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
