More about this scene
Nothing could more illustrate the pace of change than this photograph of the Horse Fair in 1923. Not only is the event a distant memory, but there have been wholesale changes to the area. The Angel Hotel (offering Good Stabling and Garage) was knocked down and replaced by a cinema. This in turn has become a nightclub. A pub built next door - The Bell - is now derelict. The chimney in the background is at the electricity works. This area is also the 'bus station; there are two charabancs at the far end.
