This view looks through the entrance towards the inn yard, all of which survives to this day. Some of the ranges round the courtyard were galleried like those the famous George Inn in Southwark, also owned by the National Trust. Owned by the Rothschilds from the 1870s, which probably preserved it from modernisation, the King's Head was given by them to the National Trust in 1926, five years after this photograph was taken.
