More about this scene
The Guildhall still dominates this scene of the lower High Street. Cars fill a single line of parking on the waste of the manor. The pavement is up and men are busy in front of Burden's shop. Tea could be had next door to Barclay's Bank or in the Copper Kettle across the road, by Holmes & Sons, printers of the Andover Advertiser. The premises were sold in 2001 to become a Wetherspoon hostelry. Paper production would move to London Street after more than 144 years.
