More about this scene
The Waterloo Iron Works opened in 1813 and closed in 1984, making way for housing. The schoolhouse survives complete with its arch into the works. At its peak in 1899, Tasker's made iron castings, columns and beams, and agricultural machines such as threshers, balers and steam traction engines. In the Second World War their Queen Mary Trailer was a famous transporter of aircraft. The 1867 Waterloo Workmen's Hall is now a private house.
