Hello there, My stepfather has asked me to search for three people that he knew in the 1950s and early '60s in Steventon. My stepfather is Robert Orchard from Pembrokeshire, Wales. He worked for the electricity board and lived in the village during the '50s. The people he would like to find are George Ballard, Peter Broad, and Robert Baxter. Our playground was everywhere, such was the wonders of growing up in the area. Hanney Road was lengthy and as is mentioned by others... what joy we had! I collected frogs from the pond with the help of Peter, a Romany gypsy boy, he had great skills in finding them. We would hold frog races on wet days in the ablusions huts. I was born at Hanney Camp but I have no memories as my parents moved when I was 6 months old. I think we lived at no 10 or 10a as the address was on my medical card. My mum use to tell me stories about her life there and she was very happy too. I read the other accounts about the camp with great interest thank you very much.
Hi, I remember living on the old Hanney Camp as a little boy; my family, mum, dad and I moved there from Wales when I was just 3 months old. That was in '46, a year later my brother John was born. I think we lived there until '52 when our family moved back to the Rhondda Valley.
