Refreshment can be sought at Captain Cook's Cottage, a café serving luncheons and teas. As a young man, James Cook was sent to Staithes to learn a trade as an apprentice to a grocer and haberdasher, Mr Sanderson. However he left for Whitby within a year, to begin his famous seafaring career.
