More about this scene

The final picture shows a brand new council estate; by the look of the gardens, no one has yet moved in. The only vehicle in the scene is a utility van, either gas or electricity. The striking feature is that despite the size of the estate, there are plenty of open spaces.

A Selection of Memories from Rumney

For many years now, we've been inviting visitors to our website to add their own memories to share their experiences of life as it was, prompted by the photographs in our archive. Here are some from Rumney

Sparked a Memory for you?

If this has sparked a memory, why not share it here?

I was born in the fish & Chip Shop in Wentloog Road, Paynes fish bar, (now a Chinese) in 1948. Christened in the Methhodist Church and on the 1st April 1960 was confirmed in St. Augustines Church. My sister was married there in 1964. It was a lovely little village in those days, not full of traffic and parked cars. I loved going to the library and choosing books to read. Brenda Hawkins (was Rasmussen)
Hello, I have lived in Llanrumney most of my 55 years and would like to point out that I think the photo of Rumney rec. and Llanrumney Ave is the wrong way round.Viewed from where it is the avenue would bend from left to right. Regards, Nigel Coles
Was delighted when I saw this picture of St Augustines. I was christened in 1950 at this church. Also confirmed here, belonged to Church Girl Guides and Youth Club. Vicar was Reverend Smith. Have very fond memories of this church.
This is a picture of St. Augustine's Church, Rumney. We were married there on August 5th 1957.   It is also the resting place of my husband's Mother, Father and Sister.  All are buried in the Churchyard. We moved to Canada in 1965.
