Militia Camps Of Roxwell
A Memory of Roxwell.
our family lived in the huts at cross keys militia camp for around 10 yrs or more.yet nothing much is revealed in the history of roxwell about these camps.the cross keys camp housed homeless families till it was closed down.yet no one seems to know the original purpose of these camps or mention it in roxwell history.the larger military camp on the chelmsford road near mizams park was very much larger than the cross keys camp.with large buildings could been aircraft hangers etc, with numerous huts for accomadation. the last war was nearly 70 yrs ago and surely some history of these 2 camps can be made available, and the people that lived in them

across the Moors at Roxwell public footpath from Cross Keys went over the stream to Roxwell village there was a curious hump in the ground across the footpath, which went across to the stream.at this point the stream changed course at right angles and was boardered up to prevent soil erosion.my guese is the pipeline went under the stream at this point across the meadow up to the road and into the wartime militia camp near mizams footpath
residents of the area must have such memories ?
