More about this scene

The carriage road from Liskeard terminated at this tranquil village of brown stone cottages set by a creek swept by the tides. It is hard to imagine that St Germans, close by, was once the seat of the Cornish bishopric, its church the most important in the county until the building of Truro Cathedral.
