Risebourgh Hall was once a magnificent house and home about 3 miles from Thornton Le Dale and four miles from Pickering North Yorkshire. It stands on Risebourgh Hill and commands sweeping views across Ryedale from its imposing position. The Hall was a beautiful old stone building, part of which dates back to the 16th century. This is where we used to go and play in the 1960 's , we used to spend hour's in the water here , sometimes there could be up to 30 of us . On a SUNDAY morning DAD and me went down here with the car , and it was driven in to the water for it's weekly WASH . There is a bridge now to drive your car over , and it is against the LAW to wash your car in the river . As we got older we moved further up river to what we called MILL ...see more
Burgate is where the Castle Cinema used to be. That brings back lots of happy memories of days gone by. I went to the cinema as a child, and then worked there, on the projectors with Ron Rich. The White Horse pub was across the road from the cinema, Alan Judson had it when I worked on the projector's. Not seen this picture for a long , long time . When I lived up POTTER HILL I used to go this way to get to the ROOKER'S . From POTTER HILL you headed towards BECON PARK , then branched off right , along a lane , think it was called COULTMAN'S CUT , that led to where this photo was taken , looking toward's the RAILWAY and the CASTLE .
