My father was a coal hewer in the mine. His step brother was Con Collins, he lived up the mountain. I used to stay at his house all summer and play with all the local kids, his son was called Steven and brother, Jimmy. There was a big family all around Penrhiwceiber, aunties and uncles and cousins; sadly I was too young to know who was who. My father was colliery manager from 1964 - 1966. We lived in Penrhiwceiber House, the big house next to the Pit. It was a great place to be a kid. If anyone has any old photos of the house or Ceiber from the sixties I would appreciate a copy.
I used to live in Perthcelyn but now live in Station Terrace in the Ceiber and have done for 7 years, all my family are from here:)
I am helping trace my brother-in-law's family tree and we have found his 2nd cousins were born in Penrhiwceiber. We are especially interested in George Henry Hall born 1881. We have found him living at 20 Station Terrace, Penrhiwceiber in the 1911 census with his wife Margaret and listed as a Coal Miner Hewer. We gather George was elected to Parliament in 1922.
