I lived at Long Green where my father was a shepherd at St Lawrence Farm. I went to Bumbles Green Primary School where Mr & Mrs Hills lived in the schoolhouse. At that time Mr Brent had the grocery shop, the Welch brothers the garage and the Old Post Office at the top of Nazeing Common was still open. There was also a little sweet shop. My name is Neil Williamson. I lived at 5 Barnfield Close, Hoe Lane from when I was born in 1950 until I emigrated to Australia in 1965. I attended Nazeing Primary School from 1955 (Bumbles Green) until 1961. I then went to Netteswell High School in Harlow from 1961 until 1965. I remember in the early 1960's - Cliff Richard lived at the top of Nazeing in a huge house called "Rookwood"- it wasn't far from Nazeing Church. As a boy I played with my mates in the old WW2 gun turrets on Nazeing Common.
My brother, sister and I used to visit my Dad's aunt and uncle who ran a Cacti nursery, if my memory is right. Lost touch once we all married, but saw them until 1965. We used to cycle from Chingford, where we lived at the time. They had a son called Bill and were called Rose and Bill. Wonder if anyone remembers them? This is an approximate date, my brother was placed in a boarding school when he was very young. We would travel there at weekends. The pond was very near the big white building he was staying in.
