More about this scene

A port at the mouth of the Arun, and once a Tudor royal shipyard, the old town runs east from the river bank. Further east is the seaside resort, built soon after 1800 in stucco terraces with Waterloo balconies. Not until late Victorian times did the two parts merge. This view is virtually unchanged, apart from the loss of the trees and renewed shop fronts. People can still wander down the middle of the road, for it is now pedestrianised.

I didn't know Butlins had a camp there?

We came to Littlehampton in the Summers of 1957-61. We stayed at Mrs Squires B n B in Albert Road. I spent my time either on the beach, the fun fair or just walking around the town (I was about 8 years old at the time). My dad and I played on the Putting Green/Crazy Golf on West Green, when did this close?. I remember a speedboat called Miss Littlehampton and a severe gale one night which almost blew the Helter ...see more
