This image is a coloured postcard: These coloured postcards were produced by the Frith company in the 1950s and 60s, in the earliest days of coloured postcard production, and were printed using a process called collo-colour. Although the results look quite basic to modern eyes, used to the wonders of the modern printing process, these postcards have a certain period charm as delightfully nostalgic ephemera items from the not-so-distant past.

A Selection of Memories from Langold

For many years now, we've been inviting visitors to our website to add their own memories to share their experiences of life as it was, prompted by the photographs in our archive. Here are some from Langold

Sparked a Memory for you?

If this has sparked a memory, why not share it here?

I spent many happy hours in Rays Hut. There were about 20/25 lads in there at any one time; we played snooker, and other games. As stated, the hut was on Ray Lister's back garden on School Road. He also had a television which not many of us had at that time; many years later when Ray became to old to cope any more, my son Simon bought a Bagatell M/C from him.
Does anyone have any recollection of this please? It took place during 50's or 60's each year on Boxing Day. My grandfather donated the shield which was competed for and one of my uncle's names is on it. Would be great to locate the shield if anyone knows if it is still about. It was the Greaves Shield. Thank you
I remember going to Langold Lake, most weekends. They used to set the lake on fire, and Jack Revill used to dive off the diving board into it. He had a young girl who helped him, she used to do the same thing. I ended up living a few doors away from her, at Mansfield-Woodhouse. Used to go to the disco in the Langold Hotel. Can anyone remember the old man who used to have a snooker table in it, he had a sort of youth club thing. It was in a Langold.
Spent wonderful times in this pool prior to June 1955. Dad, Lewis Nutton, who was engineer at Firbeck Main Colliery, engineered the diving stage in the lake. We lived at The Villas, Costhorpe, (Roselea) Randalls lived next door in the bungalow. He was Head of Junior School and she, Head of Infants. On the other side was Mr and Mrs Metcalf and Ann.Then the Ashtons and finally Godbers. There was a gap and then the Manager's house.
