Does anybody remember the modern two storey Motel that overlooked the estuary in the 1960s? It was elevated with the car park below. I am sure it has long gone and been heavily redeveloped in the passing years but I have fond memories of my stay there as a teenager. I would love to know anything about it’s fate and especially it’s name when I stayed there. Kings bridge Motel maybe??!! Any comments would be so lovely. Linda Walker
I was in 1935 and in the early 1950's lived in Thurlestone. I initially attended the Thurlestone Primary School but after sitting the 11 plus exam and failing I went to Kingsbridge Secondary School (it was called Kingsbridge Modern Secondary School in those days). My name is David Thomas. I was born in 1938, in Plymouth, but my parents lived in Warren Road in Kingsbridge. Next door lived Billy Maddick, and I would go there to listen to 'Dick Barton, Special Agent' because I was not allowed to listen at home! My aunt, Mary (Polly) Wills, ladies-maid to Lady Marlin Borlaise. Harriet Eady is living at the house she is 69. Elizabeth Foale is the cook aged 33 years, Ellen Gammon is the house maid aged 20, Lavina Townsend is the kitchen maid aged 23 and John Blight is the groom aged 21.
