This scene shows the view from near what is now the garden centre, and is somewhere near the site of the port of times past - the tide is now held back by the railway. The white- painted building above the left-hand end of the wall is the Commodore hotel of today.

This picture I believe was taken from Woodheads. You can compare it with an earlier photo of 1894 of 'Grange over Sands from Woodheads' (photo ref 34123). It is interesting to see that the land below Woodheads was still unbuilt upon at 1921 although a new house has appeared on what looks like Highfield Road. We were married here in 1994.
Is that Yewbarrow Lodge (the original one) in the background? Hit by incendiary bombs in 1941, and burnt badly. We used to play in the remains as children - Sadly SLDC didn't rebuild as per Colonel Porritt's wishes, and now although serving a great purpose as a nursing home, is a ghastly eyesore.
