Gedling, Main Road c.1960

More about this scene
Gedling is well known for the 14th-century spire of its parish church, about a quarter of a mile from where this picture was taken. There is very much a Victorian suburban feel here, apart from the 1950s concrete swan-necked lamp-post. The post office on the left is now a house; the post office has moved across the road into Read the tobacconist's next to the Gedling Wine Stores on the corner of Waverley Avenue – this shop is now Barber's Queue, a hairdresser's and sun bed tanning centre.
