We are looking north from the roundabout, and the Catholic church is just visible in the distance at the end of James Street. The railway lines and signal indicate that the LMS High Level Station is still in use, although the railway line and station soon disappeared owing to the closures of the 1960s and the redevelopment of the town centre. The railway line crossing the main road was the mineral line to Trevil Quarry. The roundabout was essential to enable the buses to turn round here.

John Barber Of Ebbw Vale?

I’m researching my family tree, and have discovered that my great grandfather was John Barber , he was a trustee of the work house in Ebbw Vale, and, as a boy in Ebbw Vale my Dad remembers seeing a statue of him up on top of a building... can anyone out there tell me anything about him, his family, the work house, and where the statue is now? Any info would be gratefully accepted .

Great Granny's Shop
My Gran owned a corner shop 1960-1970's in Ebbw Vale. I believe is it now a power station for National Grid. I would love more information about this shop.

Old Sweet Shop Waunllwyd
I have lots of family from the Ebbw Vale area on both sides of the family (particularly my mother's). But one of the memories stands out above the rest. I can remember my grandmother - Winifred Jones (nee Harding) telling me about her Grandmother owning a sweet shop in Waunllwyd in the 1920's and 1930's where she would go to skyve off school lol. Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
