Green Lane
A Memory of Crowborough.
Although we have only lived in Crowborough for 31 years, we discovered through research that our cottage in Green Lane is one of the oldest. Does anyone have any photographs of Green Lane? We would be interested in seeing these.

Do you still live in Green Lane? I wonder whether yours is the picturesque whitewashed cottage near the old recreation ground at the foot of the hill near Steel Cross. My family lived at Beggars' Cree, roughly halfway between Steel Cross and the Crowborough Hill end, from 1953 until my parents (Ron and Muriel Oliver) moved into care homes in the early part of this century. My brother and I left in early adulthood but visited often.
We saw a huge amount of building, not only of houses but the Community College too, in what was just a quiet country lane when we first moved to Crowborough. I have got a few photos of small sections of the road before it was built up but no scanner or other means of copying them. However, I'd be happy to send you these if you were willing to let me have your address.
Kind regards, Polly Fallows
How good to hear from you. We moved from Shornbrook Cottage 4 years ago after 36 years. Our cottage was the smaller of the two close to the park entrance. We were sad to do so but the garden became too much for us to cope with and as you said the road was no longer a quiet lane but a noisy through road with continuous lorries passing through. So pleased we have moved before they build the 103 houses on land at the corner with Palesgate Lane.
We remember you parents very well. Dear Ron was umpire for Eridge Cricket Club for many years and my husband Don played for them. We are still in touch with several of the cricket team who knew Ron and will tell them of our correspondence.
Would love to see the photographs. Please contact me direct mavisfuller@talktalk.net.
