More about this scene
This is a small village beside an old Roman route through the Worth Forest. The Church of All Saints was built in 1843. In our photograph, the village stores and post office were sheltered from the roadway behind trimmed hedges. The old Post Office is now a house and the front gardens have been lost owing to the widening of the very busy road.
