More about this scene
In front of Broadgate's post-war development is a statue of Lady Godiva, still notorious for nudity after 1,000 years. It seems that Godiva was distressed by the taxation imposed on the citizens by her husband, Earl Leofric. He agreed to reduce the burden if she would ride naked through the streets. This she did, with her long hair strategically placed, and Leofric honoured his promise.
