The limestone village of Conistone in Wharfedale is more correctly known as Conistone-with-Kilnsey, with its twin hamlet sheltering under the impressive overhang of Kilnsey Crag across the river. Conistone clusters around its maypole on the village green, and is still just as dependent on farming as when this photograph, complete with free-range hens in the right foreground, was taken.
