Caunsall, The Anchor c.1950

More about this scene
As a collector of pub signs, the first thing I notice here is the wonderful anchor sign, today replaced by a standard picture sign. It seems strange to have a pub of this name right in the middle of England, but in fact Caunsall overlooks the River Stour. The river has long been used for boats trading upstream and, more importantly, downstream, where the Stour links up with the River Severn and thus with the ports of Gloucester and Bristol.
