More about this scene

There was a settlement on this site in prehistoric times, but the first documentary reference to 'Bramwice' was in 1168. The name referred to the wild broom which grew here. The castle was on a hill north of the church, comprising a motte and bailey with earth and timber fortifications. Though just a Birmingham suburb now, Castle Bromwich retains its green and a few old houses.

Flamborough Close, 1945. With my parents (Reg and "Bunny"), who were married at the village church in 1939, I moved into 31, Hazelhurst Rd in 1945. My maternal grandparents, Fred and Elizabeth Hopkins lived at 19 Flamborough Close for many years (Fred died there in 1957), and my maternal aunt and uncle, Sonia and Ron Akehurst, at (I think) Number 31 or 33. Village Shop
I lived in the bungalow at the end of the spinny on West Avenue in the late 1960s and went to Highcroft School from age 4 to 5, which was an old Victorian building which always smelt of tomato soup and stood on the corner of Kyter Lane. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
