More about this scene
Created by the acquisition of land once part of Ely Common, Victoria Park was opened on the occasion of the monarch's Diamond Jubilee in 1897. It became the perfect western counterpart to Roath Park in the east that had opened almost exactly three years earlier. Long associated with the exploits of Billy the Seal the park even housed its own small zoo until 1941.
