Nostalgic memories of Mottingham's local history

Share your own memories of Mottingham and read what others have said

For many years now, we've been inviting visitors to our web site to add their own memories to share their experiences of life as it was when the photographs in our archive were taken. From brief one-liners explaining a little bit more about the image depicted, to great, in-depth accounts of a childhood when things were rather different than today (and everything inbetween!). We've had many contributors recognising themselves or loved ones in our photographs.

Why not add your memory today and become part of our Memories Community to help others in the future delve back into their past.

I moved to the Chinbrook Estate in 1965 when I was 10 years old. When I was older I spent many an evening in the Chinbrook Public House, I can remember seeing Acker Bilk play there. I went to the village school, firstly the one in Dorset Road and then the primary school near West Park. On the corner was Martins Bank with a big gold grasshopper over the door. I used to try to get to the school playground early after an air-raid to see if I could find any shrapnel. The head master was a Mr. White and the other teacher was Mrs. Phippen. My best friend was Betty Peters who lived opposite the ...see more
