More about this scene
Monk Bar is one of the finest gates in the city walls and the closest to the Minster on Goodramgate. It is vaulted on three floors, and still has a working portcullis. The road passes through the walls between the two arches shown in this photograph, and the walk around the surviving walls of York is still one of the finest ways to see the city.
