Worcester Cricket Ground
A Memory of Worcester.
Happy memories of watching cricket at New Road in the 1950s, the most well-watered pitch in the country! It was often under water for three winter months each year, when the Severn chose to flood.
My dad was friendly with Sid Styler, the groundsman at the time. Dad arranged for Sid to get me a cricket bat signed by the visiting Aussie team that year, as a 10th birthday present.Seem to remember names such as Richie Benaud and Keith. Miller. What happened to the bat during the years that followed I have no idea.
