More about this scene

A parade of local shops photographed from the junction with Pine Walk is dominated by T H Shepherd (tobacconist and stationer). Today the corner shop is Surrey News & Mini Market and, although there is still a hair salon next door, the adjacent shops have changed character to include two financial advisers, a security shop, floor shop, a vet and a Chinese restaurant. Beyond the shops is the pumping station built in 1907.

Memories Of Childhood
I was born 1943 in Purley Cottage Hospital, lived at 2 The Mount, christened at St Peters and taught at Woodmansterne Primary for a while. Walked to school via Hatch Lane and Rectory Lane and where they joined is, I think, where the photo was taken. The walk, as an unaccompanied 6/7 year old was not considered to be safe and even though the London Borough of Sutton was my home I was transferred to Smitham ...see more

St Peters Church
I was christened here in 1942 and also confirmed in the mid 1950's

II was born and grew up here my name was Janice Kemp I have visited on a few occasions but the happy places where I went can never come again.

Woodmansterne Memories
I was born in woodmansterne in1980. My parents lived in hempshaw avenue and my grandparents ran the woodman pub. I have fond memories of the village, the pub and the stories my dad tells me of when he was a boy growing up in woodmansterne.

However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
