Dedicated to Wisbech's most famous son, Thomas Clarkson (1760-1846): one of the key figures in the movement for the abolition of the slave trade in the 18th and 19th centuries. Designed by Sir George Gilbert Scott, who died before it was completed, the memorial cost just over £2,000 and was unveiled by the Speaker of the House of Commons, the Rt Hon Sir Bouverie Brand, MP.
