Sterling Scooters

A Memory of West Drayton.

I used to be a regular at Sterling Scooters which you can see in the service road next to the laundrette.
Came to West Drayton in 1963 after living in Greenford for the first 7 years of my life. I remember taking the weekly rent money (7/6), my Mum had given me, up to the town hall from Thornton Avenue where we lived.
Also remember mucking about in the cells with my little muckers when the cop shop was under construction, fun times. Later on, as a teenager, my mates and I were often pegged as future tenants of the place! If I hadn't have left the country when I did I probably would have been!
All in all though, West Drayton was a magical place to have grown up in. Fish and chips with a bottle of Fling down the Dell was always looked forward to followed by "exploring" in the woods next to the council gardens. Overnight camping by the quarry in Stockley with our air rifles was an adventure too. Good times all round.
