Great Times Growing Up In Wembley And Sudbury.
A Memory of Wembley.
We lived opposite Barham Park. Great place for playing, catching newts in the pond, throwing "bangers" at the park keepers.
Remember watching Wembley FC at Vale Farm and swimming in the open air pool.
Art deco stations at Sudbury Town and Sudbury Hill.
Incredible to think that there were 3 cinemas in Wembley in the 1960s.
Wembley Market.
Wally Kilminster for football and cricket gear plus Scalextric and Hornby Trains.
Mac Fisheries - wet fish shop.
C&A -very fashionable at the time.
Wembley Hospital tucked away near Barham School.
Could go on and on.

Wembley College's headmaster was Mr House who was mad and foamed at the mouth. Mrs Boote took over with teachers Mr King, Miss Flower, Mrs Weatherhead, Mr Young and a paedophile Mr Gregory who found every excuse to hold boys over his knees and slap them. You can tell that I find this not a happy memory. Teachers have a profound effect on students.
I recognise all the Wembley shops mentioned by many others; my Aunt served in his grocery and later in life, I partnered him in golf tournaments.
The shops in Sudbury Town and the pub The Sudbury Arms hold great memories, the latter being the pub The cast of The Black and White Minstrel Show visited after some on TV.
I'm 1966, I married a girl who lived in Station Approach our wedding was at St John's Wembley High Road.
We first lived in a new Town House in The Croft, then Brockley Road. My job then took me to.Bristol our house being in Burnham on Sea.
With three others I started our own business in Taunton.
We now live in Painswick not far from Cheltenham.
I was born in 1951 and went to both Wembley College and John Lyon!
At Wembley College I do indeed remember Mrs Boote (whose son went to John Lyon), Mrs Young, Mrs Astling and Miss Flower.
At John Lyon the first headmaster I remember was Boyd Campbell who I think was followed by Gordon Surtees. Lionel Boardman was first form master in 1B. Joey Cummings, Fred Sibcy etc
Most days Piccadilly Line to South Harrow and then walk, other days the 92 bus and walk over the Hill.
I spent a lot of happy days as an Old Lyonian and remain on a couple of Committees.
A couple of your contemporaries John Williams, Douggie Paines etc.
