More about this scene
The horse-drawn carts in the fore ground have yet to be superseded by motor transport, even in this comparatively late stage of mechanised development. The timber and bales have either been recently landed and are awaiting the services of the carts, or have just been off-loaded to await shipment. The new jetty was constructed in 1907; it was designed to take motor ships of around 500 gross registered tons.
