Wannock, Gardens, Flower Courts c.1955

My memory goes back to the late 40s. on a coach trip from Woolwich in S.E, London we arrived at Wannock Gardens.It was a glorious day and after a lovely tea, a rare treat in those days, I remember walking around the Pet Cemetary with all the sad but beautiful words of love on those little grave stones. Long ago but well remembered.

I have just found some lovely photos of this place; fortunately my late Dad labelled them otherwise I would have no idea where they were taken.

I forgot to say how brilliant the cream teas were, and especially the strawberries and cream and ice cream at Wannock Gardens, and the ladies really enjoyed their cakes and lovely tea! I still dream of it! The only tea room which could top the strawberries and cream at Wannock, was the Pevensey Castle tearooms, whose strawberries and cream were out of this world, and I have never experienced anything like ...see more

I remember the gardens well and the little village. Was this the village which was known as "A village in a village" or was that another one in Sussex? As I said previously, my dad was a coachdriver and we often visited the model village and the tea rooms as children, when dad brought an afternoon excursion for tea.
