Wallasey, The Village c.1955

More about this scene
Linking Harrison Drive and Breck Road, Wallasey Village has always been just that; no Road, Drive, Way or other title, because it doesn't need it. The scene in the photograph bears little resemblance to the same street today, although many of the buildings are still visible. An onslaught of traffic-controlling measures made necessary by the proximity of the entrance to the Kingsway Tunnel under the River Mersey has made parking at the kerbside an art form seldom seen now. The tradesman in the Reliant Regent three-wheeled van (left) would be risking a screen full of parking tickets in modern Wallasey.
