Protected from overwhelming traffic by the encirclement of the Upton by-pass to the west and the M53 motorway to the east, Upton has changed little since these views were taken. The ownership of shops and banking establishments may have changed, but the activities of the current incumbents have stayed much the same. Teas are still being served on the corner of The Village and Arrowe Park Road at the Stone House Café (U36010, right), and the Horse and Jockey Hotel still occupies the junction of Rake Lane and The Village (U36003, left). Rose Cottage (the first full building on the right in U36003) was the local telephone exchange long before the advent of STD.

Upton Very Early In Ww2
I was flicking through this site and was amazed to come across this photograph that features my mother Joan Sington (nee Phillips) along with her Spaniel 'Major'. The picture was taken before my mother had my elder brother Jonathan (in 1944) and looking carefully at her, I would assume it was taken before she was married in 1942. Molyneux Road Prefabs
Have read with interest memories of others who lived in the prefabs in Molyneux Rd, My Dad had just returned from WW2 and this was our first real HOME. I too remember Trevor Jones - his Mum and Dad were one of the first in the road to have a TV. My surname then was Sheard. Happy Days In The Village 1951 1960
I moved to the village in 1951 after my father died; mum and I had a prefab in Molyneoux Road. They are no longer there but these days were the happiest time for growing up. The church was the centre of village life in many ways with a regular dance on Friday night at youth group. There was a great little record shop and the best ice-cream ever from the dairy. The White Cottage
I was born in that White Cottage that once stood at the top of Moreton Road and have many happy memories of it and old Upton Village. In the days before the Catholic Church was built, Gemmels Wood used to stretch from Moreton Road to the start of Miss Gemmels Garden and her house which fronted Church Road. Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
