More about this scene
The Goldfish Pond from the South This portion of the gardens is situated near the south-eastern arm of the perimeter path. It was in what was called the 'children's corner' when the gardens opened in 1894. The goldfish pond was originally oval in shape, and formerly contained a single-spray bronze fountain known as the Water Carrier on a small island. It was reworked in the late 1920s to the shape we now see today. The pond was renovated for the centenary celebrations in the 1990s, and recently a new fountain has been installed.
