Boarding School
A Memory of Stroud.
I went to st Roses convent in Stroud when I was eleven years old .
The boarding house was up the lane called merrymeads.
It was named st Bedes .
I can remember going to the Holy Rosary church which was next to the convent .
Every morning we went to mass in the convent chapel .
I entered a painting into the Stroud show in 1960 and it was highly commended .
One night. When I was in my dormitory I was looking out of the window which looked down over the. Cabbage patch into the town.
There I saw a fire .
It was the local Ritz cinema .
I shouted out and all the girls crowded at the window . Sister Lucy came in very cross because it was just after 10.0 clock and lights out was 8. Clock
When she saw the fire we all had to go downstairs and say the rosary .
Apparently the cinema cat was found the next day alive and safe in the toilets .
No one ear was harmed .
She said the rosary had saved the cat .
I believe it may be some kind of supermarket now .
