Stamford, St Peter's Callis c.1955

More about this scene
The thirty years since photograph 72307 (page 38-39) have left the Callis unchanged, but the area on the right of the photograph, which included the remains of the castle mound, has been levelled and developed into a car park and bus station. Just over the parked cars we can see what is today the café and taxi office. The front of this building was moved here following alterations to the Stamford Mercury Offices on High Street. Since the photograph was taken, there have been changes along the approach to Sheep Market: the building with the mansard roof, end on to the photographer, has been replaced with an incongruous group of shops.
