More about this scene
Here we see a clean and spacious street with no traffic. The buildings were all good quality brick with stone cappings and gate posts. Porritt houses had the reputation of being fine residential properties: Mr Porritt spent a quarter of a million pounds using the best materials, including stone from his quarries in East Lancashire. The profits from his Sunnybank Mill at Helmshore were lavished on house building in St Anne's.
