Wonderful Memories

A Memory of Splott.

I had a wonderful childhood living in splott. I lived at the top end of portmanmoor road in the 50s and 60s and the people were friendly and everything was brilliant. I am Jeannette and my maiden name was Hayes. I remember most of the shops such as Drakes which was my favourite. There was Moodys and the corner cafe and the fish shop which was at the top of portmanmoor road. There was the flower shop and Charlie Lowe the butchers and Bob Hockey the grocers and Prosser, Shells and many more but too many to mention.,These are memories I cherish.

Did any of you know the kendricks of so please tell me some stories about them because they was my grandmother and grandfather
Hi Yasmin and all. I stayed in Llannelli street, Splott in 1972. I was just turned eighteen at the time. I met some great people while there, very friendly. But I had to go back to London. Do any of you know or knew a Stazil Cameron of Llannelli street. Many thanks. Denise Thompson
I knew stazil. We were friendly and used to work together in the hinge factory.
Wow! its so wonderful to find these posts on here, it brings back memory's i had almost completely forgotten. I was born in the Cardiff Royal Infirmary in 1964 and lived in Portmanmoor road with my younger sister and older brother until i was about 8 or 9. My father used to work work in the Steel works, he was from Ireland, William Doheny was his name. I think i went to school in St Albans, I remember the post office and the fish shop, the barbers where my dad took me to get a short back and sides!! i hated it, i was really fond of the post office owners daughter, we went to school together :-), my brother and i used to go to the Boxing club, i think it was in portmanmoor road. We moved back to Ireland in 1973 i think, my brother and I are going back for the Wales v Ireland game 2019 in the six nations :-) We are going to have a look around and see if we can remember anything from our childhood. I suppose its all gone now is it? It would be great to hear from anyone who lived in portmanmoor around the times i mentioned.
Hi Jeannette. THANKYOU so much for replying about Stazil. I would love to know how he got on. I would be so pleased if you wouldn't mind e mailing me. I'm 64 now, he's epprox 70 and life is too short. Much appreciation. Southlondon2016@gmail.com
Hi Jeannette. Still hoping to hear anything about Stazil. I seem to have come to a dead end. Yours was the only reply, about working at the same place. But nothing since. I lost contact with Stazil when I went back to London. I was in hospital having my baby, she's now 45. And Starzil was in hospital up in Wales very ill with TB. Letters written to me from his mum weren't passed on to me until many years later, when I revisited where I had been living after I came out of hospital. Well, after all these years and life is too short, It would be really nice to know how he's been and how he is. Many thanks Denise
Sorry Denise I don't know what happened to Stazil. I didn't know him long. It was just when we were working together. I hope you find out something soon. Best wishes Jeannette.
Ahh thankyou Jeannette for replying, I appreciate it. I've only just seen your reply. I keep coming to a dead end. I've tried lots of different ways but no luck. When I came back to Splott the second time with my baby girl, I stayed at his mums. But I heard he had met someone else. I came back to London and eventually got married, had other kids. But my daughter is now 45. I realise Stazil obviously has his own family too. But thought as times getting very short now it would be nice for my daughter to have some kind of ....I don't know what really...but , know of Stazil if possible. So appreciate your reply as it was as if he disappeared into thin air. At least I know that someone knew him. Kind regards Denise
Do anybody remember the French family also the cox and Poole families
Hi Jeanette. Hope your well. Especially under the circumstances at the moment. Just to ask you about Stazel of Llannelli street 1972/3 again. Can you tell me if the factory he worked in was called The Hinge Factory. Was that the actual name of the factory ? Still trying to get in touch. Appreciate any help. Many thanks. Denise
