More about this scene

There was a time when Southwold hoped to challenge Lowestoft for supremacy in the fishing industry. A major rebuilding programme of the harbour began a hundred years ago, and for a few years before the Great War the herring trade flourished; but it was all a short-lived dream. This view from the Walberswick side, across the River Blyth, shows some activity, including boat repair, chandlery sales and services for visitors.

Seafront Bungalow
I remember staying here with my parents sister and cousin must have been about 1950. I would have been about 6 or 7. Seem to remember a sort of sunroom located at the front where us kids slept in makeshift beds made up from loungers and easy chairs pushed together. Acton Lodge
The building with the turret is Acton Lodge where my grandparents Drs John and Mary Leedham-Green lived from 1946 until the late 1980s. The two cottages to the right had been demolished when my mother first visited (in the 1960s - she says it was a garden) and my grandparents built an extension there that housed their GP practice and garage with bedrooms down a long corridor accessible from the main house above. The Boys Own.
I remember the boating lake with very fond memories. We used to holiday with my great aunt and uncle who lived in Reydon every year. My parents, with my brother and I would arrive in late July and they would return home a fortnight later. Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
