The four roads which meet at the Cross are Moss Grove, Market Street, High Street, and Summer Hill, which are part of the main roads linking Dudley, Kidderminster, Stourbridge and Wolverhampton.
Summer Hill House, on the west side of Charmouth Road, was the Victorian home of the borough magistrate Walter Banfield Wallis.
Prickend marks the end of one expanse of land that stretches from Petts Wood in the south and to Summer Hill in the west.
Summerhill House, built in 1756, is one of these, an imposing Georgian mansion with a grand facade. It became a hotel many years ago.
