Ollerton village was at the crossroads of three major routes, and its inns catered for the coaching trade, but now, mercifully, it is by-passed and tranquil.
Beyond is Ollerton Hall, late 17th-century and derelict for some years, but shortly to become a Sue Ryder Home.
To the west of Thoresby, on the Ollerton to Worksop road, the first Earl Manvers of Thoresby built a small estate village around 1810.
South of Ollerton is Rufford Country Park, run by the County Council.
Located in the suburb of Allerton, this junction provides access to West Allerton train station and to the B5180 and A562 arterial roads.
Kippax Colliery near Owl Wood flourished between 1858 and 1904, but it was the nearby pits of Allerton Bywater (1875-1992) and Ledston Luck (1909-1987) that transformed the village into the town
