This village was built along a stretch of the old Roman road between Malton and Hovingham.
This elegant little suspension or 'swing bridge' over the River Derwent is a pleasing feature of the Plain of York village of Huttons Ambo, near Malton.
Polar bears, brown bears and black bears were all kept in the same rather basic enclosure at the Flamingo Zoo Park at Kirby Misperton, between York and Malton, when this picture was taken.
The small hamlet of Swinton, west of Malton on the B1257, above the wide valley of the River Rye, was completely deserted when the Frith photographer called on a summer's day.

The quiet village street at Appleton-le-Street, west of Malton, shows little passing traffic outside the village pub.
The village's tranquillity even belies its distance of only four miles from Malton.
East of Malton we find the mostly Victorian village of Rillington - its development followed the arrival of the railway.
Dalton was growing quite rapidly in the 1960s, and there was the occasional need for the fire brigade.
The cross stands in front of Dalton Castle at the top of the town.
It's amazing to think that Halton is now the centre of the modern town once more; history has turned full circle.

Calton Hill can be seen in the distance.
The old Calton burial ground just beyond is where the philosopher David Hume is buried.
Barnston appears in the Domesday Book as 'Bernestone', then held by William Fitz-Nigel, second Baron of Halton.
In the background on Calton Hill stands the unfinished monument to the Scottish dead of the Napoleonic Wars.
The building was used briefly in the 1980s to house the Halton Chemical Industry Museum.
On the right-hand corner with Dalton Road is Saxone Shoes, now Thomas Cook.
