The bridge carries the Padiham road over Sabden Brook into the village. Thought to have been used since the Bronze Age, the track through the valley was one of several routes followed by packhorse drivers, who carried goods across the moorland hills between Lancashire and Yorkshire. Many inns, like the White Hart (centre), originated to serve the passing trade.

I lived in Sabden for a short time in the mid 60,s.it had a big effect on me,probably as i was in my early teens.I have always longed to go back,but some how never got around to it. A dear friend, Miss Reumah Cockshutt, lived with her father, mother, brother and two sisters at 10 Whins Avenue, Sabden. It was a tragic life as her brother Stephen was killed by a kick from a horse whilst serving in the army. My father came from Sabden, his father and mother, my grandparents, owned a corner shop in the same street as a cotton mill. My father joined the Metropolitan Police in London and married my mother who was born in London. I was born and brought up in Sabden and loved living there, it holds many very happy memories for me. I was born in 1956 Susan Rushton and went to the Nursery School at the Baptist Church Hall before going to Sabden Primary School. I returned to the Baptist Church Hall in my teens as the Youth Club was held there on a Friday night, if anyone remembers these times I would like to hear from them. I have three brothers and two sisters.
